2009 Tour De Coal - Another Great year

The Tour De Coal was established as a community float trip by the founders of the Coal River Group in 2005.

The original concept for the newly formed Coal River Watershed Group was to host a day long event that would encourage families and visitors to come and enjoy the Coal River.  Since its inception the event has grown and grown and grown. In 2009 the event had 165 paddlers and over 200 people floating down the eleven mile course.

Keeping with the original concept the CRG has kept the event simple. The volunteers helping with the event has grown to over 65 and more and more river residents come out to the river to welcome and cheer the paddlers on.

It is simply and old fashioned float trip down a lazy river and people seem to love it. The new boat take out built by the WV DNR at Gateway Shopping Center in St. Albans has greatly reduced the work and effort required to help people at the finish line.

After five years, the CRG volunteer crew members have their jobs well defined and can handle any size crowd quickly and effeciently.  We are proud of our volunteers. They make the event fun, safe and enjoyable for all attendees.

Get ready for 2010 it will be special!
