New web site for Water Trail

The new Coal River Water Trail web site has been developed with help from funding from the WVDOT Recreational Trails grant.

We hope you will find the site helpful and pass it along to your friends. The new site emphasizes the addition of the name Coal River to help build more recognition for the region. We will continue to use the word Walhonde as part of the name but with emphasis on marketing the Coal River Watershed region in all our publicity.

The water trail is seeing a fantastic growth in terms of the number of visitors. The visitors are coming from throughout the US to float the Coal. Southern West Virginia will reap the benefits of the increasing number of paddlers and the CRG hopes that they will have a great visit and return again and again.

The water trail is being improved in many ways. Signage both on land and by sea is being added. A new updated trail brochure is being developed and we expect to have 10,000 copies available by early September. A new set of smaller brochures will be prepared to highlight the Big Coal River and The Little Coal River. These thumbnail water trail guides will provide more detailed information regarding how to use the local trails, access, and things to see and do while they are in the area.
