Kris Radford, President of the Coal River Group, has announced the election of Michelle Martin to the Board of Directors of the non-profit river restoration organization.
Michelle is Vice President in Accounting for City National Bank. She is a graduate of West Virginia University and is a native of Weston, West Virginia.
Radford says,”The addition of Michelle to our board is exciting for everyone. She will be able to provide valuable support for our mom-profit group’s operations and along with her sister, Melissa, will continue to increase the Coal River Group’s growing trash removal programs throughout the Coal River Watershed”
“Michelle and her sister, Melissa Jo Mansour, who is also employed by City National Bank, have worked very hard the past year helping as volunteers and cleaning up the Coal Rivers. Together they co-founded a unique volunteer group called “Trash your Kayak Coal River Cleanup Crew.” The group has worked throughout the three Coal Rivers conducting “Tire River Rescues” and removing bags of trash from the Coal Rivers. You can find their group on Facebook.”
“Michelle and Melissa have earned additional honors from the Coal River Group involving river travels,’ says Radford. “Together they managed to paddle all 88 miles of the Coal River Water Trail and earned the coveted Coal River Guide vest award. Only 12 paddlers have accomplished this task and won the vest in the past 12 years,” Radford added.
The Coal River Group is a 501c3 non-profit group that has worked for the past 14 years helping to restore the rivers and streams in the 840 miles of the Coal River Watershed. The Group was named Watershed of the Year in 2009 and 2011. The organization annually conducts many river clean ups, student water quality education programs and recreation based events. In June 2016, the Group hosted the 12th annual Tour De Coal event. Over 1,000 Kayak paddlers participated in the 12 mile community float trip.
The Coal River Group is dedicated to “bringing life back to the Coal Rivers.”
