The Coal River Water Trail is accessible from I-64 via West Virginia (WV) Route 817 (St. Albans exit, turn right traveling south), after 4 miles turn left on U.S. Route 60 to the Downstream Trail Terminus at the Gateway Shopping Center in St. Albans.

To get to the Coal River Trail Information Center, take West Main Street at the conjunction of WV 817 and U.S. Route 60 (one mile west of St. Albans) and turn left onto Coal River Road (County Route 3), which will take you to Tornado, West Virginia.

Turn left to cross the bridge and the Center is on the immediate left in Meadowood Park.
